In order to upload an app to the Google Play for Android Phones, you need to upload certain assets: icons, screenshots, video files. In this article, we are summarizing what is needed in this area. It might be handy for all designers who help you build great Android apps!
You can add up to 8 screenshots for each supported device type: Phone, Tablet (7-inch & 10-inch), Android TV, and Wear OS by Google.
To publish your Store Listing, you must provide a minimum of 2 screenshots.
- JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)
- Minimum dimension: 320px
- Maximum dimension: 3840px
- The maximum dimension of your screenshot can’t be more than twice as long as the minimum dimension.
Some sections of the Play Store show groups of recommended games using screenshots. For your game to be eligible, you must provide a minimum of 3 landscape screenshots: 16:9 aspect ratio (landscape)
The Google Play Store lets you be pretty creative when it comes to the text assets you provide for your Play Store Listing. You can use rich formatting (HTML) and emojis to make your Google Play app description stand out of the crowd in searches and in your page view.
While description should be up to 4000 characters. Please keep in mind that you should include keywords in that description, as there is no separate field for that – contrary to the iOS platform!
The short description is an 80 character synopsis of your app. It’s what users see before they have to click the “Read More” link. If you can squeeze a keyword or two in there, that’s great, but your primary objective should be enticing users to download your app
To publish your store listing, a high-res icon is required. The high-res icon does not replace your app’s launcher icon, but should be a higher-fidelity, higher-resolution version that follows these design guidelines:
- 32-bit PNG (with alpha)
- Dimensions: 512px by 512px
- Maximum file size: 1024KB
Feature & Promo Graphics
To publish an app and have it be featured anywhere on Google Play, a feature graphic is required. Your feature graphic is a powerful tool to show off your creative assets and attract new users. And for older devices, you need a promo graphic. Requirements for both:
- JPEG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)
- Dimensions: 1024px by 500px
- JPG or 24-bit PNG (no alpha)
- Dimensions: 180px by 120px
You can add a promotional video to your store listing by entering a YouTube URL in the “Promo video” field. A promo video isn’t required, but it’s highly recommended as a fun, engaging way to show features of your app to potential users.
Some requirements for that link:
- You must use a video’s YouTube URL, not a YouTube playlist or channel URL.
- Don’t use an age-restricted video.
- Use a video’s full YouTube video link instead of a shortened link, so use: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yourvideoid. Don’t use: https://youtu.be/yourvideoid
App Type and Category
